The Grand Hotel was built by the chairman of Bank of Canton, Huo Baocai, and his cousin Wu Tingwei at a cost of 300,000 yuan. It was designed by engineer João Canavarro Nolasco and built by Hong Kong Hao Heng company. Grand Hotel constructed from 1937 to 1940 but inaugurated on March 7th in 1941. Macau governor Gabriel Mauricio Teixeira and Hong Kong businessman Ho Dong cut the ribbon together.

 

Grand Hotel is located in the junction of Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and Inner Harbour; meanwhile, the heart of the former Chinese Bazaar area. At the time, the Grand Hotel was the tallest building, replacing the central hotel at nine levels, and one of the most luxury hotels in Macau. Therefore, Grand Hotel was a popular movie shooting location in the 1950s and 1960s. Unfortunately, Grand Hotel has been abandoned since 1996, until the recent year-end has new investor, who is the chairman of Everluck International Investment Holding Limited, Ng Lai Kuan. He is passionate about the hotel and plans to invest 400 million yuan to renovate it. He said he would do his best to retain the original appearance of the hotel and will continue to use the name of the Grand Hotel, so that Macau residents and tourists can return to the old place. It is now estimated that the restoration will be completed in 2020, and the surrounding residents are looking forward to it.

 

Grand Hotel was full of suspense, there was a lot of homicide cases during operation periods and the causes of deaths were also varied, so often spread out said of ghosts and gods. After it was abandoned, according to the surrounding residents, some drug addicts often sneaked into the hotel to take drug, fell into a discarded elevator due to the drug hallucinogenic, they dead and be found after a long time. There were also frustrated gamblers choosing to end their lives here.

 

Grand Hotel witnessed the rise and fall of Inner Habour area, the past pomp is no longer existing, and now only a few empty buildings are still standing. Residents feel pity about the situation, but they are still looking forward to the hotel to return to previous appearance, even if it can't be magnificent like the past, it can glow the vitality of the region.

國際酒店由廣東銀行董事長霍寶材、其表弟吳庭偉斥資三十萬元興建，並由工程師施若翰設計，香港厚興公司負責承建。於1937年動工，1940年完工，但直到在1941年3月7日才落成開幕， 由澳門總督戴思樂與香港富商何東聯同剪綵。

 

國際酒店樓高九層，取代了中央酒店成為當時最高的建築物，是澳門的地標。同時國際酒店屹立於新馬路與內港的交界處，是澳門最奢華的酒店之一。因此，國際酒店也是上個世紀五，六十年代電影的熱門取景地。可惜的是，1996年起，國際酒店棄置至今，直至近年終有進展。酒店的新投資者是國際永福投資有限公司董事長伍禮坤，他對國際酒店充滿感情，計劃投資四億重新裝修，將盡最大能力保留酒店原貌，並會沿用國際酒店的名字，讓澳門居民及遊客可以舊地重遊。現預計2020年可完成修復工作，周邊居民都對此表示期待。

 

國際酒店內也充滿懸疑色彩，營業期間曾發生多起命案，由於死因多種多樣，所以經常流傳出鬼神之說，在棄置期間也在內發現過屍體。據周邊居民所說，在國際酒店荒廢時，經常會有些吸毒者偷摸進酒店吸毒，毒品致幻後摔進廢棄失休的電梯間內，過了許久才被人發現；也會有失意的賭徒選擇在這裡結束自己的生命。
