Edifício Tak Wo was a private property and built in 1978. The Portuguese architect Manuel Vicente designed the building. In order to study the changes of urban environment and streets, Manuel Vicente adopted the method of building corner architecture and linear appearance to design this post-modern building. For this reason, its appearance was very different from the surrounding buildings, which showed the architectural features and style of this post-modern building. This building was also fully constructed with vertical lattices, showing the Macau old streets planning’s changes. In addition, its ground floor was constructed with a covered arcade.

 

Architect Manuel Vicente came to Macau in the 1960s and has been contributed in the architectural design industry in Macau for more than 40 years. Many people knew him as the “Macau Architect”. He had designed many artistic prices for Macau. Architectural works create the most attractive Macau architecture in the area. Manuel Vicente was born in Lisbon in 1934 and died in 2013 at the age of 78. His architectural work has won international awards. Manuel Vicente had a lot of designs in Macau. In addition to the Edifício Tak Wo, there were some excellent architectural designs. He designed the Helen Liang Orphanage in Sai Van, and also designed the post office building on the Avenida do Almirante Lacerda. Later, he also designed the Chi Kei Social Buildings, which won the Gold Award of the Asian Institute of Architects. These post-modern buildings have been popular in Macau for more than 30 years. Today, there are still many buildings of this style that are indispensable in modern cities.

 

Although Edifício Tak Wo has architectural features and gives a deep memory to the residents. However, there are many new buildings with the rapid development of the city, many residents do not pay special attention to this building. In the future development, I hope this building can improve interior facilities and maintain original architectural features and style.

德和大廈建立於1978年，屬於私有產權地，它的建造者是葡裔建築師韋先禮（Manuel Vicente）。為了探研大廈的市區環境和街道的變化，韋先禮利用街角建築和直線型外觀的方法，設計了這座後現代建築物的外表。正因如此，它的外型與周圍的建築物大有不同，它充份使用了垂直格子的建造，顯現了澳門舊街設計規劃的變化，這一設計表現出這座後現代建築物的建築特色和風格，。此外，它的地面層構造了一條有遮蓋的拱廊。

建築師韋先禮（Manuel Vicente）在上世紀六十年代來到澳門，在澳門從事建築設計行業已超過四十年，被許多人稱為“澳門建築師”。他不僅為澳門設計了不少具有藝術價値的建築作品，還創造出了最具吸引力的澳門建築。韋先禮於1934年出生於里斯本，並於2013年去世，享年78歲。他的建築作品曾獲得過國際奬項。韋先禮在澳門的設計有很多，除了德和大廈之外，還有一些優秀的建築設計作品。位於西灣的梁文燕培幼院和提督馬路的郵電局樓房就是他的作品，除此之外，他還設計了筷子基平民大廈，這項設計獲得了亞洲建築師協會的金奬。這些後現代建築在澳門流行已超過三十年，到了今天仍有不少這種風格的樓宇落成，它們是在現代城市不可忽視的組成部分。

德和大廈雖然擁有著建築特色，還令居民留下深刻的回憶，但隨著城市發展迅速，有很多新式的建築物，令很多居民沒有特別留意這個大廈，在未來的發展，希望這個大廈能夠改善內部設施，並能夠保持原有的建築特色和風格。
