China Products Company, established by Mr. Ma Wanqi, one of the three biggest families in Macau. After visiting the Congress for China Southeast Commercial Products in Guangzhou in 1952, the Macau businessmen realized that the motherland was rich in material resources, the development of industrial and agricultural production was rapid, and the products were cheap and good in quality. In 1970, the sales department of China Products & Special Productions Company in Macau was renamed as "China Products Company", specializing in all kinds of processed products from the Mainland China until today.

 

In the early 20th century, in front of Hong Kung temple, a business district where Chinese gathered, there were many commercial activities, especially grain, oil, food or electrical appliances. And it was next to the harbour, a lot of big ships berthed at Inner Harbour, no matter go to Hong Kong or Guangzhou, so the monopoly of Chinese products companies chose the location for this reason.

 

The whole building is located on a street corner and is simple in shape, mainly in straight lines and simple geometric shapes. It shows some of the design characteristics of the early 20th century, such as the gray appearance, known as the decoration method of Shanghai plastering. You see in Macau in the '60s and '70s a lot of buildings had these exterior decorations.

 

China Products Company is located at the corner, which is the corner position between streets, so that it can manufacture the characteristics of the landmark. It also can be seen that it was influenced by the architectural design of Chicago school in the late 19th century, vertical lines make China Products Company look taller on the illusion.

 

As a retail wholesaler which used to be closely related to People's Daily life, it witnessed the rise and fall of Rua de Cinco de Outubro. Even if the communities want to improve, the government's development cooperation makes them lose hope. The blind reservation will only stagnate, the reservation and the development should achieve the balance to obtain the continuity.

中國國貨公司，這間老牌企業由澳門三大家族之一的馬萬祺先生創辦。在1952年在廣州參觀華南物資交流大會後，澳門工商界人士認識到祖國物質富饒，工農業生產發展迅速，產品價廉物美，因此籌設了『中國土特產公司』批發部和門巿部，專營內地商品，並於同年7月1日正式成立。在1970年澳門中國土特產公司的門市部改名為『中國國貨公司』，專營祖國各種加工產品時至今日。

 

澳門中國國貨公司位於康公廟前地和十月初五街的交界處，在二十世紀初康公廟前地是華人聚集的商業區，所以這裡有很多商業活動，特別是與糧油食品或電器有關的活動。而且它的附近就是是碼頭，很多大船不論去香港還是廣州都會停泊在內港碼頭，所以當時專賣中國土特產或中國國貨的公司有可能因此選址在此地。中國國貨公司整個建築物在街角住置，造型很簡單，以直線和簡單的幾何形狀為主。雖然整體造型簡樸，但是國貨公司仍舊有體現出上世紀初的一些設計特色，例如灰色的外表，就是採用了被稱為上海批盪的裝飾方法。由於中國國貨公司位於交角位置，所以它也是澳門的地標之一。從此選址亦可以從中見到國貨公司的設計受到19世紀後期美國芝加哥學派的建築設計影響，豎直的線條會讓這建築物錯覺上看上去更高。

 

作為一座過去與大家日常生活息息相關的零售批發商，見證著十月初五街一區的興衰。即使街坊希望得到發展改善，但政府的發展配合使得街坊失去希望。一味的保留只會停滯不前，保留及發展應取得平衡以獲得持續性。
