The Apollo Cinetheatre was located at the No.13 of Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, and it opened in 1935. It’s a modernism architecture, the features can be found not only from the balconies and windows of the façade, but also can be found from the simplicity of the decorative motives. The layout of the original theater was simple, and the lobby which faced the street was flat and square. At that time, theater would not put chairs everywhere inside the building. Instead, it would try to leave rooms to evacuate the audience.

 

At the beginning, the theater broadcasted Chinese and Western silent films without subtitles. There was a commentator standing next to the screen, watching the expressions of the actors and actresses in the film and the development of the plot. It just liked telling stories. Apart from showing films, the Apollo Cinetheatre had other functions. In 1932, Cai Tingjun, commander of the No.19 Army, visited Macau and gave a speech at the Apollo Cinetheatre to promote anti-Japanese national salvation activities and thanked the support from the Macau communities. Apart from the patriotic events, this theatre witnessed the development of Buddhism in Macau. On the first day of the lunar August in 1947, in response to the invitation of Macau's Buddhist community. Xuyun master came to Macau to speak the scriptures and to show his resignation at the Apollo Cinetheatre. This event, the grand occasion was unprecedented, the impact was very significant and many people started the belief of Buddhism.

 

The Apollo Cinetheatre closed in 1993. Nowadays it has been converted into clothing, jewelry and watch stores. For the future development, the local community said it can rebuild as a theater as it located at the heart of the Historic Center of Macau. Because there are only few traditional theaters in Macau, rebuilding as theater can help to inheritance the local film culture.

 

The Apollo Cinetheatre witnessed the development of Macau film and culture industries. Comparing to modern cinemas, this kind of traditional theater highlights the milk of human kindness. The stories not only be shown in screens, but also kept in memories.

平安戲院坐落於新馬路13號，於1935年開業，是一棟現代風格主義建築。它的建築特色不僅表現在陽台及立面上的窗口，還可見於簡單的裝飾圖案。戲院格局簡單，向街的大堂四平八正，舊時的戲院不會用盡所有地方來放椅子，相反，會留下一定空間疏導觀眾。

最早，戲院所播映的是中西方的默片，即“映畫戲”，它沒有字幕，所以銀幕旁會有一個解畫員，他會根據電影中男女主角的表情動作及劇情發展，加以繪聲繪色的講解，如同在講故事一般讓觀眾欣賞電影。除放映電影外，平安戲院還有不同用途。例如在1932年，十九路軍長蔡廷鍇親臨澳門 , 在平安戲院演說，感謝各界同胞的鼎力支持、推動抗日救國活動。除愛國活動外，平安戲院也見證了澳門佛教的發展，在1947年農曆八月初一日，應澳門佛教僧俗的邀請，虛雲大師來到澳門講經說法，並在平安戲院開示歸戒。此次說法，盛況空前，影響甚大，皈依者眾多。

平安戲院於1993年結業，現已改作不同類型的商店，包括服裝店、珠寶店及手錶店。至於戲院未來發展，尚無明確規劃。社區居民建議復原為戲院，因澳門舊戲院所剩無幾，而其更地處澳門歷史城區中心地帶，能幫助傳承澳門影視文化。

平安戲院見證了澳門影視文化行業的發展，相比現代化影城，傳統戲院更能突顯社區間的人情味，一幕幕故事不僅表現在屏幕中，更深深地留在記憶裡。
